What is the difference between Isolation and Quarantine?
Answer. Isolation is keeping away the infected person from the healthy individuals so that the infection may not spread, while quarantine is restricting movements of the apparently healthy individual till the longest possible incubation period, so that if the person has acquired the infection from another country may not introduce it to the country he has just came in.
The major difference is that isolation is done after confirming the diagnosis while quarantine is on just suspicion.
Q. What is Herd Immunity?
Answer. The level of immunity in the community as a whole is called herd immunity. It is also called group protection. It is believed that in certain diseases if 2/3 population is immunized, the remaining 1/3 will automatically behave as protected population. Herd immunity provides immunological barriers to the spread of communicable diseases. The spread of communicable diseases depends upon the proportion and immune and susceptible persons, if the immune individuals are more the infection will not spread but if the susceptible individual are more the communicable disease will spread.
