It was Thursday, the 8th of October 2009. The weather was cloudy. A big (230 Pounds) man( me) entered Abasyn University to get admission in Public Health Master degree discipline.
He stepped up the stairs and went into reception office. In reception office, the receptionist glared with wonders as he sees eighth wonder of the world. The receptionist was totally confused when he was discussing the admission procedures with that big man.The big man filled admission forms and returned to receptionist.
Receptionist with very low and worried manner excused the big man for there will not be any chair available for his size, so the big man hast to provide one for himself. This was the first mishap with the big man as he had to pay 5000 more to get special WWF sized chair.
The big man thought, it is a private university and he can get degree very easily, though he was shocked when he faced the first music on the same day, by a strict, well dressed and intelligent Master ( Sir Nayyer sb). His dream resulted opposite.
The big man rushed to account office to get his money back, as it was not in his capacity to study two years with Rock music ( the dose given by Sir Nayyer when someone not replying properly) and mind shocking exams and unbelievable results. In account office, the accountants argued and presented the policy, where the student will not get anything back, but instead should give 10% extra charges as a fine. The big man was shocked for the second time as he observed the behavior of account section.
At last the big man decided to cordially study public health and abide by the rules and regulations of Abasyn University and made comitment with himself that, he will be a true public health follower.
Today was the last day for big man in Abasyn University as a student.
The big man has some good and bad experiences about Abasyn University and want to share them, though these are his personal feelings and he might be either wrong or right?
1.Academic facts
a. Public health course coordinator was at home in all the subject which he taught.
b.Course coordinator always mobilized all the students to get better and output based results.
c.Course coordinator tried his level best to teach with different methods for getting the students understand the topic
d.Sir Jamil methodology was impressive.
e.Sir Nazim was intelligent and motivational
f.Sir Azmat was talented
With all above facts, there were some negative points on behalf of students
a.As the field was related to medical and those who did not know anything about Medicine, were there as well to get public health degree, which made the environment tough.
b. English as a teaching medium was another headache for students, as exams and lectures are delivered in English
c.Some students appeared to exam even they did not know their subject
d.There was no student counselling system which needs to be initiated
2.Administrative facts
a.Every one was eligible to get admission in Public health principle----------there was no inclusion or exclusion criteria
b.You can get admission even on the day of exam, which made it much more difficult for course coordinator to handle the students.
c.Class location and timing was not clear. The big man had to knock every close door to find the his class.
d.The people in the receptions did not know how to deal the students and every time were telling lies and giving fake information
e.Fees were not uniform , it was like a business, like a bargaining.
f. In case of electricity failure, a small generator was used which was insufficient to give electricity to whole university
g.No safe drinking water was available
h.No entry exam was compulsory, the admission criteria was your pocket of fill of money
3. On parts of class fellows
During his stay the big man found all his class fellows cooperative , respected, and good friends
Just to summarize the big man stay in Abasyn university, he finally says:
"For Academic purpose Abasyn University is the best University as having the competent and Intelligent Academicians"
"For administrative purpose the university has to improve in all sections of the university mentioned above or left untouched"
