    Dear colleagues,
In class we got a question which made it difficult to solve, and the question is as follow with answer in probability lecture!

Problem: A math teacher gave her class two tests. 25% of the class passed both tests and 42% of the class passed the first test. What percent of those who passed the first test also passed the second test?

    Solution: P(Second|First) = P(First and Second)/ P(First) =

    0.25/0.42 = 0.60 = 60%

    Just enjoy and cheer up!

    Dear Dr Farooq you wrote: Solution: P(Second|First) = P(First and Second)/ P(First)

But you didn't go through actual problem. The last part your formola is P(First) but in our presentaion it is actually P(Second) which was the main point of our discussion. So wher did you get this formola from? Could you pleas mention the source.

    Dear Dr Shafiq,

    GO through the following formula:
Here Probability A is known and That is 42%.
The formula will be reversed if probability B is known.

Multiplication Rule 2: When two events, A and B, are dependent, the probability of both occurring is:

The formula for the Conditional Probability of an event can be derived from Multiplication Rule 2 as follows:

    Start with Multiplication Rule 2.

Divide both sides of equation by P(A).

Cancel P(A)s on right-hand side of equation.

    Commute the equation.
We have derived the formula for conditional probability.

If the question was like the following:
    • A math teacher gave her class two tests. 25% of the class passed both tests and 42% of the class passed the Second test. What percent of those who passed the Second test also passed the first test?

    P(A!B)=P(A and B)/P(B)

    Just Cheer up!

    Dear Dr.Shafiq,
In fact conditional probabilities are so much difficult.
I tried it for one week and than got something and that is the reality.
You are right, but it needs a lot of work. I wish I could be intelligent enough to get things quickly.
I think I will not be able to continue enjoying your company any more for I am leaving for sometimes, probably one year.
You are lucky that you are continuing !
