    Branches of statistics
There are two branches of statistics
    1. Descriptive statistics
    2. Inferential Statistics

Descriptive statistics: it is that branch of statistics which involves the organization, summarization and display of data.
    Inferential statistics:
is the branch of statistics that involves using a sample to draw conclusions about a population. A basic tool in the study of inferential statistics is probability.

    Example-1
Decide which branch of the study represents the descriptive branch of statistics and what conclusion can be drawn from it using inferential statistics?
A large sample of men, aged 48 was, studied for 18 years. For unmarried men, 65% to 70% were alive at age 65. For married men, 90% were alive at age 65. Which part of the study represents the descriptive statistics? What conclusion can be drawn from this study using inferential statistics?
    Solution
Descriptive statistics involves statement such as “For unmarried men , 60% to 70% were alive at age 65” and “ For married men, 90% were alive at age 65.”
A possible inference drawn from this study is that being married is associated with longer life for men.
    Example-2
A survey conducted in Abasyn University of 180 students showed that 67% of female and 77 % of male students passed their first semester in the first attempt.
    Solution:
Descriptive part: A survey of 180 students in which 67% female and 77% male students passed their first semester in the first attempt.
Inferential statistics: The percentage of male students who pass the first semester in their first attempt is more than female students.
