Dear Colleagues Hope You Will Be Fine!!

As many of you called me about how to make the hypothesis for your research so I thought to give you a uniform guidelines pertaining to the hypothesis statement.
I am sure it will help you, just change it according to your study design.

    Stating a Hypothesis

A claim about a population parameter is called a Statistical Hypothesis. To test a statistical hypothesis, you should carefully a pair of hypotheses-One that represents the claim and the other, its complement. When one of these hypotheses is false, the other must be true. Of these two hypotheses, the one that contains a statement of equality is the “Null Hypothesis”. The complement of the null hypothesis is the “Alternate Hypothesis” Either hypothesis – the null or the alternate – may represent the original claim.

    Definition

    • A null hypothesis H0 is a statistical Hypothesis that contains the statement of equality ,such as≤, or = ,or ≥
    • The alternate hypothesis Ha is the complement hypothesis. It is a statement that must be true if H0 is false and it contains a statement of inequality ,

    Such as <, or, ≠ or >

H0 is read as “H subzero” Or H naught and Ha is read as “H sub a”

To write the null and alternate hypothesis, translate the claim made about the population parameter from a verbal statement to a mathematical statement. Then write its complement. For example if the claim value is k and the population parameter is µ, then some possible pairs of null and alternate hypothesis are as given below

    H0; µ ≤ k H0; µ = k H0; µ ≥ k

    Ha; µ < k Ha; µ ≠ k Ha; µ > k

    Example

Stating the null and alternate hypothesis

Write the claim as a mathematical statement. State the null or alternate hypotheses, and identify which represent the claim. A University Claims that the proportion of its students who graduate in four years is 82 %

    Solution

The claim “the proportion……is 82 % can be written as p = 0.82 its complement is p ≠ .82 because p = 0.82 contains the statement of equality, it becomes the null hypothesis. In this case, the null hypothesis represents the claim.

    H0; P = 0.82 (Claim)

    Ha; P≠ 0.82

in case you need more examples or clarity, do not hesitate to post your prroblem in this relevant section, I will get back with some solution, according to my own poor knowldege.
    With Good Wishes
    Your CR
