For all those who today (23.4.2009) without ever opening their Epidemiology books shamelessly claiming that there was no information related to Different types of mortality rates in the epidemiology books, should open the page no 23 and then page no 41, and give it a detailed readings. But if they are blind and cannot read then they should consult a Eye Specialist and this condition can be life threatning

Once again Hypos to check Page 23 and Page 41-45 of their Epidemiology Text book

Dr.Abu Zar you explained the avatar very well but i am proud of my language and pronounciation because i donot have the habit of changing myself as many people do have as they are not stable.english is not my mother language nor its culture is my culture so i will neither follow their culture nor there polices as many people around me do so.and one thing more if Allah has allowed us to reciet Holy Quran in seven prononciation then what is the importance of english to pronounce it as english people prononce it. i will pronounce the way i will like to pronounce.

Dr.Bangash you had missed my quality that i donot have the habit of butter polishing and today i will tell you the difference between social animal and humanbeing. Both are same according to the so called western culture but as i DONOT follow western culture as i mentioned it above so i will explain it according to islamic culture. socialanimals have all the body parts as the human being but the big difference is that social animal donot think but just speak but human being think several times and then speak NOW JUDGE BY YOURSELF WHO IS ANIMAL

Come on everybody. Just cool it. Jokes should be taken as Jokes. I even joke on myself..... Seriously I am also going to check my Thyroid Hormone levels too, as I guess I have contacted the disease from my students. They are many and I am alone, so the law of diffusion naturally followed and I guess I need what they call in Epidemiology as "SCREENING"

Please once again, all these comments are in light mood and they should be taken lightly. Otherwise life is so tough and we all need breaks, so making the mood light by joking and sarcastic comments should be taken with a light heart.

    No offence

Post by Dr. Zubair Sun Apr 26, 2009 12:45 pm

I feel compelled to comment on this topic, in spite that I don't belong to these semesters.

When I joined MPH, one of the subjects in first semester was "Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Research methods". Although I joined as DL student but I used to attend classes of this subject regularly and still cannot forget the hard crush (what you call "Ragra" in Urdu) given to us. There used to be hard comments, strict pinching and teasing itching which was hard to tolerate at that times being a new student.

But believe me friends ! .... That hard time and "Ragra" is paying me off in my professional dealing, although I feel I hardly learnt anything. The point I want to make is that we must look at the intent behind any harsh comments made. Its nothing beyond students' own betterment, if one understands. Why do we get angry and slap our children occasionally ?

We better take things light and in constructive way. The signature of Dr. Nayyar reminds me of a line by Iqbal:
"Apnay man mai doob ker pa ja Suragh- e -Zindagi".

I would take this opportunity to say one more thing. I feel, these three important modules of Public health (Epidemiology, Biostatistics, reasearch methods) aggregated in one subject, perhaps is a little unfair. Diving them into separate subjects or at least 2, may give adequate time to give students a better understanding.
Another thing (which I said while I was in 1st semester) is some overview should be given to good students on important statistical softwares. As it is not in practice right now, may I suggest that when our present class (4th semester) inshallah gets to the end of the course, some classes may be offered to intersted / selected students on EPI info and SPSS in the last semester. One day a week should not be an issue while doing the thesis.
Even if this is not possible, a workshop may be offered to interested students under the flag of the university at the end of course. We may think of including in this workshop, public health professionals froum outside on payment.

It was not a fight. Dr Fazal is a very jolly guy and has got a very good sense of humor but some students due to tension of impending mid term couldnt take it in a light way, so emotions flamed. But everyone should take jokes only as jokes. A good laugh is what the doctor prescribes

I came to know through Controller of Exams and the Registrar, that Epidemiology, Biostats and Research Methods has been split over three semesters now, so at the moment only Epidemiology will be taught, next Biostats in next semester and then Research Methods in Final Semester

Sir I am very much interested in the Epi Info, because many a times while in Sudan I very badly needed the nowledge of this sofwear and wanted to learn it but in the whole Sudan no body new it except our teamleader Salah Haisami of Egypt but we did not find time to sit together.I also requested Mr Shakir provincial Data Collector who is presently our Colleague in Abasyn but even he was unableto help me.
So taking the opportunity of the Already launched request of Dr Zubair,I reinforce the request.
