Procedure
· You should submit 3 copies of the research book quite a few days earlier to the date of interview / viva, the cover page should be dark green in colour with logo of Abasyn University on it.
Your contact number should be written on paper sticker on the back side of your book.
· The interview date and time is fixed by the Abasyn Admin, and is intimated to the candidates one or two days before the Viva
· The examiners sit in a room full of audience to ensure the transparency of the process
· The candidates thus called for are asked to sit in a separate room.
· When the viva starts the examiners themselves come and call the candidates one by one to defend their thesis.
What you are expected to defend:
Your Title
· Your viva starts from your title, if the title is not clear then you will be sweating, the boats of most of my fellows sank in this dirty sea created by themselves
· It must be so clear that the reader immediately understand what is inside, this book
· It must match your work and objective
· It must not be too long and ambiguous
Your abstract
This suffice to tell you that both of the examiners go through your book page by page and have a critical stay at your abstract
Your objective
In this section both of the examiners will give you tough time, you have to be strong defender here, in case you failed to defend your Objective or failed to tell them that the rest of your written work including your Questionnaire and field work is very well correlated with your objective, I fear they may ask you to redo the research.
Method
· How you collected the data
· What instrument did you use during the study
· What are your operational definitions like what do you mean by malnutrition, or birth space etc
Sample Size
· This section cannot go unquestioned
· You have to prove that this sample size was calculated by this formula; & was appropriate for my this study type and target population, they may give you calculator or offer you a paper and pen to do the calculations.
· Was your sample fulfilling the minimum sample size criteria, if not why? Remember that if the sample size is not enough then though you will not be asked for redoing the whole research but you must be prepared to do the same research with a bigger sample.
Statistical Analysis
· Which statistical test you have applied?
· Was this test appropriate for meeting your study objective?
· Here the internal examiner go through your whole analysis tables and graph, you have to interpret it with logics
· You may be asked for other statistical tests and the areas where they can be applied
What are your findings?
· You have to show the findings and how you reached here?
· Are the findings will be the same if someone else does the same study in your area? Here they will want to see the validity of study.
Recommendations
· Are your recommendations appropriate and consistent with your study?
References
· If must not be too few
· It must be in Vancouver style
I will request the Abasyn Admin to also call my friend Zia for the Viva when next batch is ready.
Wish You All The Best
